THE BRIEF
Lighting is an important part of creating the right atmosphere at Nando’s. The goal was to bring together functional and accent lighting in a flexible control system, allowing the restaurant to transition from a bright daytime setting to a warmer evening ambience, all while keeping operation simple for staff.
THE RESULT
A Lutron lighting control system provides a selection of scenes and presets, allowing staff to easily switch between daytime and evening lighting. Taking advantage of natural daylight, lighting levels can be kept low during the day before being increased in the evening to create a warm, inviting atmosphere.
Rather than switching abruptly between scenes, Lutron was programmed to fade between lighting presets over 10 minutes, ensuring changes are subtle and barely noticed by diners.
Automated scheduling takes care of opening procedures, switching on front-of-house lighting before the restaurant opens.
The restaurant’s living plant wall was another interesting feature, with dedicated grow lights controlled by Lutron’s timeclock to simulate a natural daylight cycle and support healthy plant growth.
The result is a flexible lighting system that enhances the dining experience while making everyday operation easier for restaurant staff.
