Avid Automation was engaged to design and deliver a versatile audio system for the planetarium, capable of providing both an immersive surround sound experience and high-quality audio reinforcement for live performances. The system needed to offer straightforward operation while delivering exceptional sound quality and reliability across both applications.

A custom-designed Crestron touch panel puts the planetarium’s entire audio system at the operators’ fingertips, allowing them to switch between immersive surround sound and live performance modes with ease. Behind the scenes, BSS digital signal processing handles the DANTE and analogue audio routing, ensuring the right audio reaches the right speakers for each application.

JBL speakers and Crown amplification provide the power, clarity and dynamic range needed to bring planetarium presentations to life, while delivering the punch and performance required for live events.

The result is a powerful and versatile sound system that transforms the space to suit the occasion, without adding complexity for the operators.

One of the more unique and enjoyable projects we’ve had the opportunity to work on.
